dress update/ first outfit post!

Dress- Hand made
Shoes- Urban Outfitters
Petticoat- Thrifted
Belt- Thrifted

I blogged a week or two earlier about a dress I was making from a 1954 pattern which I have now finished and am just in love with how it turned out. I think I will be making lots more dresses from this pattern ;) It is amazing how different old patterns are from todays patterns. First, and this may be my favorite part, you do not have to cut out the pattern!! this saves so much time and sanity. There is only one size in the pattern and you just pin it straight on to the fabric with out having to cut out your size. Then you just cut the fabric between the two lines on the pattern and the edges of the pattern simply fall away. I wish they still made patterns like this however you can only make one size from one pattern which can be a bummer. Usually I just find patterns in roughly my size and then just adjust them to my actual measurements. I am getting better at doing this...when I first started sometimes it didn't turn out so well :) Well...I hope you like how it turned out also

Patterns! Patterns! Patterns!

I always love getting new patterns and I especially love getting new (to me) vintage patterns! Luckily I have a wonderful mother and great friends who always keep their eye open for such things :) THANK YOU! I love patterns from the 1950's and 1940's especially, however it is kind of difficult to find ones from the 40's. I just discovered some really great patterns today while I was sorting through boxes with my mother in my sewing room. I am super excited about one in particular (see picture above) that I will make for my cousin-to-be's wedding rehearsal in a couple of weeks...I hope I can finish it in time. I'm thinking polka dot fabric.................we will see. Also stay tuned for an update on the last vintage dress I made...It is finished, I just have to get an outfit post up

Etsy Love

There are so many amazing creations on etsy!!!...I love looking through the unique beautiful items for sale. Here are a few of my favorite items on etsy....just a few because if I put everything there would be now room left on my blog!!

This locket by Grigio Designs is one of my favorites. I already love and collect lockets but this one has an edgy twist...It looks dainty and feminine from afar but on closer inspection is it spooky...I love it!

I have always wanted a tattoo of a feather but these stockings allow you to have a tattoo with out the commitment!

Sohomode makes the most adorable and pretty vintage inspired dresses...these will surely be my bridesmaid dresses when the time comes :)

I can't wait to get this beautiful crown of stars from Giant Dwarf
Just a few of my favorite Etsy things...I hope you find something lovely on Etsy too!

Sew Lovely

I am i love with vintage patterns...every thrift store, garage sale or antique store I go to I look for vintage patterns. I have quite a collection and even my friends and my mom look for them for me when they are out and about. I have had this particular pattern for a while now and have never used it until I found this amazingly quirky and unique fabric at my favorite fabric store the other day. I use "favorite fabric store" loosely because although they have mountains of fabric for relatively good prices..the ladies that work there can be kinda scary ;) I can't wait to start sewing on it tomorrow...I hope I can finish it in time for Easter!

I just love this fabric...It reminds me of a quirky Toile fabric and also of Snow White..I just love the trees and little animals

I just finished packing for my trip to Las Vegas. My long time friend (who just happens to be my cousin's fiance ;)) is having her bachelorette party in sin city. I have never really gone out in Vegas so this is going to be exciting! Plus..all of the girls going I have known since kindergarten (we were all girl scouts together) We are staying at the Flamingo which I am super excited about because not only does it have a water slide( yes I am going to Vegas and yes my favorite part is the water slide ;)) but because this is the hotel where my grandparents eloped in the 40's. For my nerdy side....

aaaahhhhh I am so excited to see this quorra costume online! I have wanted to make a quorra costume ever since I saw the movie Tron but no companies had made the costume until now. I was even contemplating what kind of material I could use for the lights on the costume when I made my own. Although I am sure this is not the best quality costume..I am still excited to see that there is one out there. Still I think I might make my own.

Life as a Construction worker???

So today was a very productive and rewarding day...and I am not talking about the yummy lunch I was treated to by my future cousin in law/great friend.  Today I helped my friend put new grass in her backyard...we chose seed because it is waaay cheaper. Anyhoo...three girls...6 hours...and 25 bags of manure later..we had successfully laid down grass seed( well I hope it grows!) and we could not feel any more proud of ourselves. We are independent women and we got the job done! Although it may have been a long hard day we managed to make it extremely fun...theres something about listening to old spice girls songs while spreading manure that just makes it all better ;)

These Boots are Made for Walkin.......

So it is no secret that I am in love with cowboy boots...my dad is from Tennessee so maybe it has a little to do with that :) I have worn them since I was little...I even had a pair of red and pink boots when I was little. And to be honest I wouldn't mind picking up a pair of grown up red boots as well! Here are a few pictures of boots that I just love...most of them are on brides maids which I just love and hope to do at my wedding one day. Enjoy

I sneaked one in there of me in my favorite boots!

Tea for Two Forever: A Bridal Shower

Much to my rescue my beautiful cousin to be and long time friend had her bridal shower today. It was a much needed break from the hours of cleaning I was doing for my dad's party on Sunday. The shower was a lovely tea complete with the yummiest finger sandwiches. I am truly happy to welcome one of my best friends into our family and I cannot wait for the wedding!!! I just hope my bridesmaid dress gets here in time...yikes! I also got the chance to wear one of my favorite vintage dresses again...compliments of the long beach antique swapmeet :)      Today was a wonderful day and I can't wait for tomorrow...then back to work on my etsy store...it is in the works I promise!
